Electrolysis was born in 1875
when Dr. Charles Michel, an opthomologist in St.
Louis, Missouri, treated a patient with an ingrown
eyelash. Dr. Michel inserted a probe charged with
Galvanic current (a direct current, DC) into the
problematic follicle. Through an electrolytic action
sodium hydroxide was produced
which caused chemical decomposition in the
tiny hair follicle. This procedure solved the patients
problem and was the beginning of a procedure which
has helped many people.
Since 1875 ongoing research and development has
given us a greater understanding of how the electrolysis
process really works.
